2018 Fall Band Judge Bios

James Bode

Active composer, arranger for percussion, marching, concert bands and jazz ensembles.  Principle Percussionist with San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, Founder and director of the West Texas Jazz Orchestra; drummer for Jazz Concho, conductor of the Directors Band of San Angelo; adjudicator and clinician for competitions ad schools throughout Texas for 28 years;  Adjunct Instructor of Percussion and Jazz Ensemble, Instrumental Methods Angelo State University; Retired from public school teaching 2010. Member Of TMAA (Texas Music Adjudicators Association).

Scott Dudley

Scott Dudley is a graduate of Baylor University where he received his Bachelor of Music Education degree. Upon completion, Mr. Dudley began his 21 year tenure on the band staff at Belton ISD where he served as Director Of Percussion Studies, Assistant Band Director, Associate Band Director, and most recently Director of Bands. Currently, Mr. Dudley owns a private percussion studio where he teaches beginning, middle school, and high school percussionists. He is also an active performer, band clinician, and consultant.


Travis Hobson

Travis Hobson spent 33 years teaching band in Texas.  He recently retired from Wall I.S.D. where he served as Band Director for 24 years.   Mr. Hobson earned his B.M.E. from Sam Houston State University in 1983. He taught in Caldwell, Humble, and Woodville prior to Wall.  His bands were consistent UIL Sweepstakes winners. Currently Mr. Hobson is enjoying retirement. He is and active adjudicator for UIL and festivals throughout Texas.


Ben Houghton

Ben Houghton is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Studies. After graduating, Mr. Houghton began his teaching career in Temple ISD where he served as Director of Percussion for 3 years. During his tenure, the percussion program grew in numbers and was awarded the second largest grant in district history to vastly expand its electronic and percussion equipment. Currently, Ben Houghton is in his first year as Director of Percussion for Robinson ISD. Mr. Houghton was also a member of the Cadets in 2013 where they received the Fred Sanford Award for Best Percussion section.


Robert Vetter

Robert Vetter has spent thirty-seven years directing bands in Texas. He recently retired as Director of Bands for Robinson Independent School District. He holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music Education from the University of North Texas. Prior to 2008, he was Director of Bands at Reagan County ISD in Big Lake for twenty-five years. He began his teaching career in 1979 at White Deer High School. Bands under his direction have appeared at the UIL State Marching Contest six times. In July of 2014, the Robinson Band was named TMEA Honor Band for it’s classification. Mr. Vetter now spends his time as a consultant and adjudicator.
