Administrators:

As TAPPS prepares to enter its second 50 years, our leadership continues to review all aspects of the organization including alignment of schools, playoff considerations, and the TAPPS calendar. The athletic executive committee and executive board represent schools from across Texas at varying levels of enrollment, participation, and student makeup.  After several years of review the TAPPS Executive Board, on the recommendation of the Athletic Executive Committee and staff, affirmed the 2026-27 calendar for TAPPS activities.

The 2026-27 calendar presents a new vision for the TAPPS year. It positions TAPPS and its member schools with greater flexibility and efficiency to serve its 42,000 students today and into the future. Through continued discussions with our member school stakeholders these changes support reduced calendar overlap between the end of one season and the beginning of the next. This reduced overlap decreases the pressure on school staff, students and families, and facilities allowing for additional student participation in not only athletics, but also academic programs offered by TAPPS.

The beginning of the year needs to align with the start date of other athletic organizations in Texas to encourage cross organization contests where possible to fill schedules and events. The final scheduled events coincides with the overwhelming desire of our member schools to end the TAPPS competition year in mid-May. This ending date allows for schools to avoid many conflicts with end of year scholastic events available to all students, freshmen through seniors.

The 2026-27 calendar requires and allows our member schools the opportunity to amend schedules positively affecting the overall experience across all of TAPPS sanctioned activities. We look forward to the transition to the coming seasons and the opportunities they provide.

For the Board,

Rodrigo Romo Bryan Bunselmeyer

TAPPS Board President Executive Director
