MARCH 17 WEBCAST

Friday, March 13, 2020

TAPPS Administrators:

With each passing day at the school and association level, we are all receiving requests for information regarding the changes in our daily routines and plans. While much is known about COVID-19; there is much more information coming our way over the next few weeks.

TAPPS continues to review information provided by the CDC, our healthcare partner Children’s Health Andrews Institute (CHAI), and high school governing bodies similar to our own. In addition, we are monitoring what our individual member schools are implementing to continue providing educational services in the manner deemed best for their school.

After much consideration and evaluation, the TAPPS Executive Board determined the following in regard to interscholastic competition in the near term.

  • Games / Contests
    • TAPPS is suspending all interscholastic competition through April 12, 2020.  This action will take us through the Easter Break. If your teams are in competition today they may conclude today’s  (March 13) activities.
    • If it is deemed safe at that time to resume participation, we will have developed a plan for championship competition for each activity, given the constraints of scheduling and available facilities.
  • Practice
    • If your school is in session, then it will be left to local discretion on whether teams may practice.
    • If your school has closed campus (which includes online or digital classes), then practice is not allowed.
  • Athletic Activities
    • The suspension shall be in place for those activities governed by the organization and includes
      • Baseball
      • Golf
      • Softball
      • Tennis
      • Track
  • Fine Art Activities
    • As a result of the suspension, the following fine art activities will have the method of competition amended to allow for the competition to move forward without the exposure of large crowds  or numbers of participants.
      • Music – Solo and Small Ensemble
      • Music – Medium and Large Ensemble
      • Academics
      • Speech/LD Debate
      • Art
      • Robotics

Information on the calendar dates and schedules of play will differ for each activity.  Please join us on Tuesday, March 17, at 2:00 pm on our webcast for more detailed explanations and specific information on the different activities. A digital record of the webcast will be available on the TAPPS youtube channel for those who cannot attend. Changes will be made with the best information available at that time; however, no activities will resume prior to April 12.

Please contact the TAPPS office at 254-947-9268 or by email at info@localhost should further questions arise.

ADMINISTRATORS:

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to surface across the United States creating concerns for organizations of all sizes.

As each of our member schools monitors the situation, they will determine the best path for their stakeholders.

TAPPS is actively monitoring information from the CDC and other sources to monitor the spread of the virus and potential risks associated with the disease.

At this time, there are no changes to our published calendar and schedule for our ATHLETIC championship contests.

We are presently developing alternative plans for the FINE ART championship events scheduled in March should changes be deemed necessary.

For events scheduled over the next few weeks, baseball and softball included, the following rationale shall be used for TAPPS school participation:

  • If a member school closes for reasons associated with the COVID 19 situation, all contests should be postponed until a later date when all schools have resumed play.
  • If a member school is in session but chooses to restrict travel or competition for reasons associated with the COVID 19 situation, all contests should be postponed until a later date when all schools have resumed play.
  • If member schools are in session with no limitation to participate, then contest should go forward as scheduled.
  • The key component, at this time, is that contests or events shall be postponed and not be considered a forfeit.
  • These considerations shall apply to individual sports, team sports and fine art activities.

TAPPS will host a webcast at 2 pm on Tuesday, March 17, to further release information and plans as we all navigate this situation in which we now find ourselves.

This webpage will be updated in the coming days as required so please bookmark the page for future review.

Thank you for your continued support and should questions arise, please contact our office as outlined below.
