Dear Directors,
I hope this letter finds you in a “good place” as we prepare for our TAPPS contest in Lubbock.
**Change of previous year’s schedule**
We are transitioning Instrumental groups to the beginning of the day and Vocal, String, and Piano to afternoon. I wanted the schools from further distance to have daylight travel time.
Tentative Start Times:
Instrumental – 8:30 – 1:00 and Vocal 1:00 – 3:30 at LCS campus
String, Piano, Handbells 1:00 – 2:30 at LCU campus
LCU will be hosting the String and Piano participants on their campus in the music building where they have been in the past.
The rest of the competition: Vocal and Instrumental will be held on the Lubbock Christian School campus located on 2604 Dover Ave., just south of LCU.
Parking
On the maps you will see places to park at LCS; for LCU, there should be parking for smaller vehicles across the street from the music building or in the church parking lot.
Fees
Make sure you bring fees and fee form to check in room 102 of the ELC on LCS campus.
String and Piano will need to come by LCS to turn theirs in before their events begin at LCU also room 102 of the ELC building.
Monitors
I plan to have Parent and Student monitors guiding and directing students to rooms for the Vocal and Instrumental contest here at LCS.
Holding Areas
For the Band students, the holding area will be in the cafeteria which is located in the Eagle Athletic Center (EAC). Directors, please make sure your students know to stay off of the gym floor.
We are planning on the Band Hall being the holding area for vocal groups and students. We feel like this will be a large enough space for students to gather, store items, and do some warm-up if needed. Please… “screw on lid” drinks only in the band hall.
*Choir Directors, we may be having percussion ensembles in the band hall when you arrive, in that case, please gather in the cafeteria until we are finished in the band hall. (Follow black dots on LCS map.
Restrooms
There are restrooms in the EAC, as well as the Huff Science and Band Building that may be used by the students.
Warm-up
In the band hall Vocal students may use any of the 3 practice rooms to warm-up; the Jazz Room, Office and Uniform Room may be used for larger groups…preferably groups that are “on deck”. There may be some keyboards set up in some of the rooms, although we don’t have enough for all rooms.
Wind Instrument students will only be able to warm-up in the Cafeteria. We are using the band hall for percussion solos and ensembles. No playing in performance hallways.
Percussionists will not have a designated pre-performance warm-up. They may warm up in the Cafeteria if they have their instrument with them, otherwise they will not have a warm-up time allotted for them. They may take a minute to try out percussion equipment in the band hall before their performance. The south end of the band hall nearest parking lot has a door (labeled #1) to load percussion equipment if needed.
LCU warm-up: String students will be able to set up and practice in the band hall. I’m not sure if there will be any pianos available to practice on for Piano students. They have practice rooms, but they may be locked for University students only.
Percussion Equipment
We will/can provide:
4 Tympani, concert bass, chimes, vibraphone, xylophone, bells, marimba.
(if you need something special, let me know… we might have what you need).
Please mark your equipment if you bring any, especially sticks and mallets..
Pianos/Keyboards
We are limited on keyboards and pianos, but will use the best we have for the performance rooms. If there is any concern at all, you may bring your own.
Hospitality and Tabulation Room
The Hospitality and tabulation room will be in 102 of the Elementary Learning Center (ELC). This will be for judges and directors (bus drivers/chaperones). We will not have a hospitality room set up at LCU, but feel free to come down to get some refreshments before or after your performances if desired.
Awards
You may pick up any medals and scores from the Hospitality and Tab. Room 102 when your school has finished for the day. String and piano will pick up their medals here as well.
If we don’t have medals, TAPPS will make sure you get those.
If I failed to include something, please email me at [email protected]
