State Information

Section 232 State Information


 i. Once the state meet has closed for all changes, adds, and deletes, schools may not
make changes to their state event entries on TAPPSTER.  Labels are unique to each entry. Entries entered after the deadline are subject to double state fees,
sanctions, and the possibility of not competing. 

ii. Substitutions for state in person events can be made according to the deadline posted on the calendar.

iii. Schedule of judging and events – will be posted to the TAPPS website.

iv. State Schedule for schools and Students – will be posted to the TAPPS website (click on the art


i. It is the art teachers and the schools responsibility to be aware of all due dates and adhere to them. To understand and apply the guidelines and rules found within the art manual. These
can be found posted in the art section of the TAPPS website. Missed deadlines can result in double fees, sanctions, and a school not being able to compete.

ii. The art teacher and or a representative of the school must accompany students and the artwork to the state meet. He/she will be responsible for checking in, bringing the school notebook, placing the art in the correct categories, picking up artwork at the end of the day, and chaperoning students.

iii. Responsibility to familiarize and knowledge of TAPPS art rules and guidelines.

iv. It’s the Teacher and or school representative responsibility to complete the art test (found on under testing)

v. Completing Student eligibility form

C. DOCUMENTATION:  To avoid work being disqualified, schools will assemble a notebook with the following included in it:

i. All signed and completed Artwork Information Forms will be included for all artwork entered.

ii. Teacher or Representative contact information for the duration of the State Competition

iii. State Inventory Forms

iv. State Fee Form

v. State Fee Check

vi. Schools will have all artwork verified at check-in and approved to be placed in the judging area.

vii. Schools will be provided with all labels at check-in.

viii. Schools will be provided with a state schedule and any other State Information necessary.

ix. This notebook will stay in the gym for the duration of the competition.

x. Once check-in is compete, schools will be able to place their work in the judging area.

xi.Schools may be allowed to provide proper documentation until check-in is complete.  Proper documentation includes:

a. Artwork Information Form

b. Model release form

c. Signatures by both Student and Teacher


i. Each student will receive one piece of drawing paper that has the official TAPPS stamp.

ii. A maximum of 2 students can be entered into both Sketch and Sketch Black and White and Color for a total of 4 students.

iii. There will be 2 hours for this event.

iv. The correct label must be adhered to the official paper.

v. Finished drawings will not be mounted or matted.

vi. Students are responsible for bringing their own drawing supplies, drawing board etc…

vii. Students are not to draw indoors, they must stay outside and away from off limit areas.

viii. Disqualification of the work of art will result if teachers and or school representatives and or parents are discovered assisting students in any way including critiquing and advice
during the two hours of this event.

ix. Students may not draw images of people in their final artwork.

x. The room assignment and time scheduled for this event will be on the State Schedule posted on the TAPPS Art page.

ii. Each school may sign up a maximum of 3 students.

iii. The correct label must be adhered to the official paper.

iv. Students are responsible for bringing their own drawings supplies, drawing board, etc…

v. The room assignment and time scheduled for this event will be on the State Schedule posted on the TAPPS Art page.


Entries will be judged at State on the following criteria:

i. Technique – the use of media and tools (execution and technical skills). The student chooses and controls media and tools effectively to enhance the appearance of the work.

ii. Personal Expression – the level of imagination, creativity and individuality. The expression is unique and the concept presented in a fresh way that is imaginative and inventive.

iii. Organization – The use of elements and principals of art, effectively choosing those which enhance the overall appearance of the work.

iv. Integration – the work integrates technique, expression, and organization through aesthetic and critical judgment to achieve an effective interpretation.

v. Judges will be provided by TAPPS.

vii. Decisions of the judges will be final.


i. The OFFICIAL TAPPS LABELS will be generated and passed out at check-in to each school once their artwork is verified.

ii. Once the school has received the official labels they are to be affixed to the front lower right hand corner of the mat.

ii. All labels will be printed by TAPPS


i. State Judging Fee $30.00 per entry per school

ii. Categories 1-12, 14 $10.00 per entry

iii. On site categories (On-Site Drawing, Seek and Sketch) $20.00 per entry


i. Categories 1-12 1st through 8th place

ii. Two Honorable Mentions awarded in each category.

iii.There are no Ties

iv. Points awarded as follows:

a. 1st place – 10
b. 2nd place – 8
c. 3rd place – 6
d. 4th place – 5
e. 5th place – 4
f. 6th place – 3
g. 7th place – 2
h. 8th place – 1
g. HM – no points
