Section 186 – Track & Field Qualifications

  1. Teams/individuals must qualify for the State Meet by competition at the district and /or regional meet.
  2. At the district meet, each member school may enter one boys’ team and one girls’ team. Each team may enter no more than three contestants in individual events and no more than one team in each relay event.
  3. Qualification for the State Meet shall be as follows:
    • See Playoff Format Section 141
    • Schools shall be assigned to districts by the TAPPS Executive Board.
  4. The District/Regional President shall certify the state qualifiers to the STATE TAPPS Office by the deadline shown on the current year TAPPS Calendar:
    • USING Hy-Tech Meet Manager is required.
    • Only TAPPS School Codes shall be used.  No other codes will be accepted.
    • Top six places must be certified to the TAPPS office.
  5. ROSTERS/PACKET
    1. Packets containing competitors’ numbers and coach’s wrist bands may be picked up prior to the start of the meet.
    2. TAPPS Events Passes will also be accepted (Signed and with Proper Identification), all others must pay at the gate. Competitors’ numbers will admit athletes.
    3. Each team must provide a minimum of one responsible adult to work one field event.  Names of these individuals must be included on the roster mentioned above.
  6. Entries must be submitted through TAPPSTER.
  7. TAPPS EXECPTION TO NFHS Track and Field Rules. – THIS RULE APPLIES TO DISTRICT, REGIONAL AND STATE MEETS.
    • No contestant shall be allowed to compete in more than
      • 3 running events, including the relays
      • and in not more than 5 events in all;
      • a contestant may compete in 5 field events.
    • A competitor who participates in more than the number of events allowed by this rule shall forfeit all individual places and points earned in those events exceeding the limit.  If the event(s) exceeding the limitation is a relay, those points and places shall also be forfeited.
