Trinity School of Texas boys, Christ Academy girls claim TAPPS 1A golf titles

Trinity School of Texas captured the boys team championship and Christ Academy won the girls crown at the TAPPS 1A Golf Championships, a two-day event played in rainy conditions at 2439 E. US-67 in Glen Rose. The tournament, completed over 36 holes despite thunderstorms, also crowned individual champions with Christ Academy’s Austin McCollum taking the boys title at 127 and Accelerate Christian School’s Danity Diaz winning the girls title at 171.
On the boys side, Trinity School of Texas finished first with a team score of 596, holding off Covenant Academy at 612 and Austin Classical School at 715. Trinity’s depth proved decisive because the top four scores from each day counted toward the team total. Preston West and Matthew McHaney each finished tied for third individually at 147, John Clark McHaney placed fifth at 150, and Hudson Heath added a 152 for sixth. Those four scores gave Trinity the balance it needed to secure the championship. Covenant Academy was led by runner-up Matthew Li at 146, while Crews Austin placed seventh at 153, Rex Eilers was ninth at 156 and Charlie Grooms finished 10th at 157.
McCollum delivered the lowest score of the tournament and separated himself from the field by 19 strokes, giving Christ Academy the top individual boys finish. Behind him, the race for the All-State team was tightly packed. West and Matthew McHaney shared third place at 147, and John Clark McHaney’s 150 kept Trinity firmly in command of the team standings. Kade Adley of Texoma Christian School also cracked the top 10 with a 154, underscoring the depth across the boys field.
