Judge Biography

Gary (Lou) Lindsey

For the past fifty-three years Lou has, in one capacity or another, involved himself in educational theatre. Lou earned his Bachelors Degree from Hardin-Simmons University, Texas and his Master of Arts from Bowling Green State University, Ohio. Lou began his teaching career in Brownfield where he built a vibrant program and made five consecutive UIL One-Act Play State Meet appearances. He was Theatre Director for Bee County College, Beeville and McLennan Community College, Waco. Lou served on the original board of directors for the then Texas Educational Theatre Association Adjudicators Organization. He has judged the UIL One-Act Play State Meet and regularly directed at the University of Texas Summer High-School Workshop and the then West Texas State University Summer Camp. Lou completed his career at Plains ISD where he directed the Junior High School One-Act Play to eleven consecutive titles while teaching Mathematics to fifth and sixth graders. His final few years were spent at Plains High School where he guided students to three one-act play back-to back state-meet appearances where two of those appearances earned the state championship. In 2013 Lou was recognized and honored by The State of Texas House of Representatives for his commitment to Texas youth and to educational theatre. Since his undergrad days, Lou believes that theatre, like religion, is essential to mankind because both continue to explore through their revealing powers the tough and often unanswerable questions of life. Lou is eager and excited to work with the companies of directors, actors, and technicians represented in today’s contest.
