Athletic Directors and Coaches:

TAPPS continues to monitor the incoming weather along with each of you. While the forecast differs from each weather outlet, there is consistency in the fact that rain is coming and the potential for more severe weather exists. Safety of all remains a top priority as we move through the event. Hold and Delay is the plan until that plan cannot be accomplished. We may go late into the evening if the weather allows.

The main goal of each regional meet is to establish the qualifiers for the state competition next week. We will make every effort to establish those qualifiers. The task at hand is large and will require all of us to work together towards the common goal – please be prepared to assist as needed and remain flexible as we move through the event. While competitors on the field and track, we are all on one team as we do our best for our student athletes.

If at some point in the day weather forces cancellation, the meet will resume from the point of suspension at 8:00 am on Thursday or at such time as weather allows.

At the time of coaches meeting, the conditional format changes linked below may be implemented as determined by the TAPPS staff and meet officials. Please prepare accordingly.

Field Event Considerations and Potential Changes:

  • Communication regarding conflicts
    • There will be conflicts between events
    • Vertical Events will take precedence over horizontal events
    • The process for student athletes and coaches is as follows:
      • Both the student athlete and coach need to report to the lead official at both sites.
      • The official shall record the conflict
      • Students shall make every effort in the horizontal events to get in at least one attempt.
  • Vertical Events
    • Warmups will be condensed as necessary and communicated by the event official
    • Opening Heights will be enforced
    • Once the competition is down to four competitors, one final height will be attempted.
      • Ties will not be broken from this point forward
      • Points shall be distributed as follows
        • Add up points for each tied position / divide by the number of positions in the tie.
        • Example – three tied 10+8+6=24 / 3 = 8 points for each competitor
    • Seeding heights into the state meet will be based on the incoming heights established at the district meets in the event of ties. If no ties, the heights recorded at the regional meet shall be used.
  • Horizontal – Jumping Events
    • Warmups will be condensed as necessary and communicated by the event official
    • Each competitor shall be allowed four (4) attempts in the order of original seeding from district results
    • If conflicts occur, we will work to ensure all four (4) attempts are made and recorded into the final standings
    • Ties shall only be broken for the last qualifying position and points distributed as noted above
  • Horizontal – Throwing Events
    • Warmups will be condensed as necessary and communicated by the event official
    • Each competitor shall be allowed four (4) attempts in the order of original seeding from district results
    • If conflicts occur, we will work to ensure all four (4) attempts are made and recorded into the final standings
    • Ties shall only be broken for the last qualifying position and points distributed as noted above
