How exciting that the State Band and Orchestra competitions are just around the corner. We are looking forward to a great time!  The schedules are now posted on the Band and Orchestra pages on the TAPPS website.

The competition is at a new venue, the AC Hotel Waco Downtown. Here are a few things to remember:

  • Plan to arrive at least 45 minutes to an hour before your first performance time.  This will give you time to get offloaded and buses parked without a rush.
  • Bring payment for the event with you to turn in at check-in.  If you do not have a check, we will invoice you.
  • Bring your “layout” of how you want chairs set up for your large performance.
  • Please be patient as we work through a new venue and its perks and quirks.
  • There is no outside food allowed, capped water bottles only.  However, there are many food places within walking distance of the hotel.
    • 1-2 Blocks Away:
      • Union Hall (Food Court with multiple options)
      • Terry Blacks (Texas BBQ)
      • Hecho En Waco (Mexican)
      • Magnolia Silo’s, Bakery, and Magnolia Press (Food Trucks, Bakery, and Coffee Shop)
      • Hey Sugar (Candy Store)
    • 3-4 Blocks Away:
      • Milo (Scratch Kitchen)
      • Cricket’s (American)
      • Ninfa’s (Mexican)
      • Wingstop (Chicken Wings)
      • Olive Branch (American Cafe)

Below are the percussion instruments that will be available. They will be distributed between the Large performance and medium ensemble rooms.  There will be a few in the warm up area. If you need something that is not on the list, you will need to bring that with you.
