Football Game Day Technology
Athletic Directors and Coaches,
The 2024 football season brings a continued emphasis on the use of game day technology in Texas. In accordance with the 2024 NCAA Football Rules, The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Executive Board approved changes for this season and beyond. Our member schools may choose to embrace the technology as long as the technology does not violate the governing rules as expressed in the current year NCAA Football manual and the expressed TAPPS exceptions to those rules.
The TAPPS Football Exceptions for 2024 shall include the following changes.
NCAA Rule 1-4-11.a
TAPPS Exception:
- TAPPS member school teams are allowed to use video and data technology (computers, tablets, ipads, smart phones, etc) during the contest and at intermission. The use of technology is limited to the press box, locker room and sidelines during the contest.
- Larger devices including tv’s are not allowed for this purpose.
- The game officials will not be responsible for enforcement of the rules governing the use of technology.
- If any team personnel engages an official with any video technology to dispute or review a play, an Unsportsmanlike Conduct foul shall be assessed to the team personnel in question.
The contest shall be played under the guidelines established by the governing body of the home team when TAPPS member schools participate in interscholastic competition, scrimmages and games against nonmember schools.
If questions arise, please contact the TAPPS office at 254-947-9268 or by email at [email protected].
